Review Policy

I find five star rating systems mean different things to different reviewers, so here are the criteria I use to determine what star rating to give any particular read. Please bear in mind that I am a Christian, so that does affect both what I read and how I rate things.

1 star = The book was terrible :( I either found no good points or so few good points that the good points don't really count.

2 stars = The book had some major flaws, but it also had some notable good points that raise it above one star.

3 stars = The book has about an even mix of good and bad points.

4 stars = The book is engaging and well-written, but has some flaws that detract from the overall story. This is my go-to for a book I casually enjoyed.

5 stars = This book captivated me. Any flaws are too small to detract from the overall story, and the plot either shows incredible originality or a remarkably masterful take on old tropes or themes. That being said, I will also use this rating for books I enjoyed above and beyond other books, even if the plot technically did have issues.

I will also shamelessly use 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 star ratings to differentiate between the books that fall into these five categories because StoryGraph lets me do it, and I'm spoiled now.

My plan is to publish the week's book reviews every weekend. To find old posts or book recommendations, look at the "Tags" section and you should be able to find posts based on the kinds of genres, regions of the world, or star ratings you're looking for. Since I'm doing this entirely for fun, I cannot promise a strict posting schedule or total consistency.

Finally, while I am happy to beta read, read ARCs, or take suggestions for upcoming reads, I do reserve the right to turn down any request for any reason.
